March 22nd, 2010 Not being satisfied with the first 30-plus MPG and 300-plus Horsepower vehicle on the planet Ford is embarking on another first for the 2011 Mustang V-6. This time they will take a 1,000-lap challenge around Bristol Motor Speedway on one tank of gas in a 2011 Mustang V-6 on June 23rd. Ford will try to accomplish this feat with a team of Ford engineers and celebrities who will take turns driving the 1,000 laps around the half-mile NASCAR track. Ford hopes to drive the 2011 Mustangs 3.7-liter V-6 more than 500 miles on a single tank of gas. Fuel capacity for the 2011 Mustang V-6 is16 gallons but anybody who has owned an S197 Mustang knows another half gallon should fit easily. This puts the Mustangs range at around 511 miles considering it gets 31 mpg but with stops to change drivers this could cause the miles to go down. Ford is also wanting fans to get involved in the 1,000-Lap Challenge by entering a national sweepstakes to guess the total number of complete laps the Mustang will manage around Bristol Motor Speedway.
