How to Turn a Beaten up Chevrolet Chevelle into a Respectable Ride in Less than Six Hours

Granted, no one is expecting miracles in less than six hours when you're working on a beater 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle you just picked up from Craigslist, but Doug Glad and the Car Craft crew proved that that it is possible to turn it into what they describe as a "respectable street machine" in this new episode of Hot Road Unlimited.

You can watch the video for yourself right after the break.

Man Proves to Newt Gingrich that You Can Put a Gun Rack in a Chevy Volt

It's amazing how fast people react these days. While campaigning in Suwanee, Georgia, a couple of days ago, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich attacked President Barack Obama on his plans to increase subsidies for alternative fuel-powered cars.

Gingrich started by making fun of the green car lobby. "How dare we go out and drive vehicles bigger than their bicycles!" said the former House Speaker before he aimed his guns on the Chevrolet Volt.

"You know the Volt is an interesting experimental car," said Gingrich. "The average family that buys it earns $170,000 a year. This is Obama's idea of populism. And in this new budget he wants to increase the amount given to every Volt buyer to $10,000. Which is an amount which a lot of people would by a decent second-hand car, but it wouldn't be an 'Obama' car."

Chevy wants to Make Sure you Know that the Camaro ZL1 was Honed on the Nürburgring

While we can understand General Motor's fixation with the Nürburgring, we're getting the slight impression that the Detroit automaker may be overdoing it when it comes to promoting its cars.

After a ton of Nürburgring-related films on the Cadillac ATS and following the official video of the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 lapping the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds, GM has published the fifth installment of its ZL1 video series that gives us yet another insight on how its engineers developed the pony car on the German race track.

Supercharged 1968 Camaro Meets Supercharged 2011 Camaro SS on the Track

One of the first things most publications did after the presentation of the latest crop of pony cars from Detroit's Big Three were to compare them with their 1960 and 1970s predecessors.

So, what's new about Insideline's latest test between a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro and its modern-day namesake? Well, the difference here is that both models featured in the video have been heavily modified.

Video: 2013 Nissan GT-R Versus 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition

Perhaps the greatest achievement for Nissan and its GT-R is that it has become a benchmark for all types of sports cars.

And there's no better proof for this than the fact that in February alone, we've seen at least three publications comparing the Godzilla against a variety of new sports cars including the 2012 M5 sedan, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 and now, the Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition from Insideline.

So, before you watch the video test, let's do a quick rundown on the numbers:

MT Pits 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Aganist 2012 Corvette Grand Sport

Chevrolet's Corvette and Porsche's 911 are two of the most recognized and longest living sports car nameplates in history. Both models have evolved in many ways over the years but also remain true to their heritage.

The 2012 Porsche 911 was only just introduced into the market this year sporting an entirely new platform and a lighter body, while the sixth generation of Corvette has been with us since 2005 and has entered its final year of production as Chevrolet will present an all new model next year.

Nonetheless, since we live in the "today", Motor Trend's editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie took the 436-horsepower 2012 Corvette Grand Sport and compared it with the 400-horsepower 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Chevy Takes a Stab at Ford with its New Super Bowl Ad for the Silverado

And the claws are out! Chevrolet makes no apologies for its new commercial on the Silverado pickup truck that will air during the first quarter of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world that draws on the Mayan predictions, the ad shows a group of friends that made it out alive and who all happen to be Silverado owners.

Once they assemble, they notice that one of their buddies didn’t make it to the meeting point – the missing friend happens to own a Ford…

You can take a look at Chevy's "2012" Super Bowl ad in the video after the break.

Chevrolet Goes Big for Super Bowl with Five New Ads

GM's Chevrolet division will have a huge presence at this year's Super Bowl game as it plans to air no less than five commercials focusing on the Camaro, the Sonic and the Volt.

These include the "Needing Getting" music video for the Sonic from the band OK Go that will air during the pregame program, the "Aliens" spot showcasing the Volt, the "Chevy Happy Grand" with the Camaro Convertible, the "Sonic Anthem" that chronicles the sub-compact's stunts, and the "Joy", again with the Sonic.

Road & Track Pits the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 against the 2013 Nissan GT-R

They may be different as night and day in most aspects, but we shouldn't forget that both the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the latest 2013 Nissan GT-R are aimed at the sports car enthusiast.

Nevertheless, we do find the pairing from Road & Track for its latest test a tad odd for one specific reason: pricing.

You see, Camaro ZL1 with its 580HP 6.2L supercharged V8 will retail for $54,995 (€41,800) when it arrives in dealerships this spring, whereas the 2013 edition of the 545HP Nissan GT-R starts from $96,820 (€73,500) not including destination and handling fees. This means there's more $40,000 difference between the two cars.

Police Seize Chevrolet Impala Taxis in Canada for…Street Racing

Now here’s something you don't often hear about. Canadian police seized the vehicles of two motorists for racing on Yonge Street in Toronto. Nothing new except that these two drivers were racing their Chevrolet Impala…taxi cabs!

We don't know who the winner was from the Beck Taxi versus Royal Cab derby nor if they managed to actually complete the quarter mile on the public road, but Canadian news sites reported that the two cabbies were formally charged and had their licenses suspended for seven days.

Badass 1971 Corvette C3 Convertible Sports New ZR1 6.2-liter Supercharged V8

Patterned after the "Mako Shark II" concept and produced from 1968 to 1982, the third generation of Chevy's iconic sports car series has by far the most aggressive and over-the-top design of all Corvettes. And at least up unit the 1973 oil crisis, it had the power to match its brawny looks.

But for an owner of a 1971 Corvette Convertible, the stock V8 wasn't enough so he fitted the open-top model with GM's LS9 crate motor, which is the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 found in the most powerful series production Corvette of all time, the ZR1.

GM states that the crate engine delivers 638-horses at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 604 lb.-ft. at 3,800 rpm. The owner of the car said it made 536 rear-wheel-horsepower through an automatic transmission.

Poll: Which Chevrolet Concept Coupe Would You Like to be Built?

The 2012 Detroit Motor Show is more or less consigned to the dustbin of history, but that doesn't mean we'll stop talking about the vehicles that made their world premiere at the Cobo Center and especially the concept models.

Truth to be said, high-end sports cars such as the Acura NSX and Lexus LF-LC studies are the ones we'd really like to drive in the not so distant future, but for most of us, it's models like the two Chevrolet coupe concepts that correspond to mainstream reality.

While very different in philosophy, Chevrolet's Code 130R and Tru 140S Concepts share several attributes: both models were designed as four-seater coupes for the young at age (or young at heart); both are based on existing platform architectures and use production hardware, and finally, if they were to be built, their price would be in the low $20,000s.

Power Play: Watch Four Chevrolet Silverados Tear Down a Building

While some GM dealers go around destroying old cars to inaugurate their new premises others use the company's new vehicles to demolish their old buildings like this dealer, who judging by the name used to upload the video on YouTube, is John Thornton Chevy, located in Georgia.

The Chevrolet dealer hooked up four Silverado pickup trucks to the building's columns and the GM models didn't disappoint.

Head over the jump to watch the impressive take down in the video that follows.

Watch this 1,500HP Twin-Turbocharged Corvette Accelerate Like There's No Tomorrow

There's really fast, there's super-fast and then there's this twin-turbocharged Chevrolet Corvette C6 with some 1,500-raging-horses under its bonnet eager to be unleashed on the asphalt.

The crew from HighTechCorvette put together a new video of the bow-tie beast that made headlines when it trumped a twin-turbocharged 1,200HP Dodge Viper SRT10 on the road, showing the C6 accelerate from 50mph (80km/h) to a little over 170mph (274km/h) in just a few seconds.

Feel free to watch both video clips right after the jump

Get Your Kicks on “Route 66” Super Bowl XLVI Chevy Ad – and Win $10,000 in the Process

The NFL Super Bowl game is the most watched American TV broadcast of the year: in 2011, some 111 million viewers watched the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31 to 25. It broke the record held by the 2010 game, which itself had shattered the 28-year old record held by the final episode of M*A*S*H.

It’s no wonder then that companies not only pay huge amounts of money to place their ads, but also want those ads to make an impression on the biggest TV audience in the U.S.

Skateboarder Rob Dyrdek Kickflips a Chevrolet Sonic Like a…Skateboard [Videos]

Professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek joined forces with GM's Chevrolet brand for a daredevilish car stunt to promote the launch of the new Sonic sub-compact, and the result was pretty impressive.

The 37-year old American skateboarder swapped his four-wheel plywood board for the five-door Sonic to perform a 360-degree “kickflip”, which employed two 50-foot ramps, one to launch off and the other to land the car on. And did we mention that there was a giant skateboard positioned between the two ramps?

Holy Smoke! Meet the 9.68 Second Quarter Mile Corvette ZR1 [Video]

We can't be 100 percent certain that this Corvette C6 ZR1 modded by the crew over at 'Late Model Racecraft' is indeed the quickest ZR1 in the world as claimed by its builder, but after watching it run the quarter mile in just 9.68 seconds with an exit speed of 147mph [237km/h], we have no doubt that it's blazing fast.

But don't just take our word for it, scroll over the jump to watch the video for yourself.

Golden Razzie: Teen Girl Supposedly Does Burnout in Dad's Manual Corvette C6

When you hunt for car-related videos on a daily basis, you are bound to stumble on a clip or two that will force you to place your hand flat across your face – a physical gesture commonly known as 'face palm'.

And this video of a supposedly teenage girl - who actually looks like she's well into her 20s- allegedly doing a burnout in her father's manual gearbox Corvette C6 is definitely worth a good face palm, or two.

GM Completes 1 Million Test Miles with 2013 Chevrolet Malibu [Video]

It's no secret that all major carmakers put their new vehicles through a series of tests that include driving prototypes hundreds of thousands of miles all over the world and under all kinds of conditions before they enter regular production.

The upcoming 2013 Malibu, which will be Chevy's first-ever global midsize sedan, is no exception. On Thursday, General Motors announced that the Malibu's engineers surpassed the 1 million mile mark of on-road testing, which were accumulated since the first quarter of 2010 on a fleet of about 170 hand-built prototypes on six different continents.

Thanksgiving Turkeys: Corvette C5 Crashes Into Corvette C6 During Street Race

As you can see, we're back to our regular posting schedule after our mini Thanksgiving break. And yes, for those of you asking, we had a great time which is more than we can say about these two Thanksgiving turkeys that spent a good part of Thursday signing papers and trying to explain how they managed to get into each others face – or so to speak.

So here's how it went down: at a stop light in The Woodlands, a latest generation silver-colored Corvette C6 and a previous-gen gray Corvette C5 are getting ready to play Dumb and Dumber the I'm faster than you game.

The two drivers rev their V8 powerplants and push the pedal to the metal as soon as the green light comes on. Under the dramatic sounds produced by a total of 16-cylinders and 32 teeth chewing bubble gum (that would be the person filming the Corvettes in the blue car…), the two men begin the race which lasts only about 9 seconds as the driver of the C5 loses control and smashed into the C6….
