Scaglietti was responsible for the classic 250 Testa Rossa and the 500 Mondial models Famed Ferrari designer Sergio Scaglietti has died at the age of 91.
Scaglietti was the designer of several classic Ferrari models including the 250 Testa Rossa and the 500 Mondial models.
Ferrari also named the 612 Scaglietti model in honor of the man.
Scaglietti was born in Modena, Italy and at the age of 17 started a garage across the street from the Ferrari Scuderia factory. He began working for Enzo Ferrari repairing cars and was then asked to begin designing in the 1950s. Fiat bought the Scaglietti garage in the 1960s but Sergio Scaglietti remained in charge until he retired.
Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo released a statement on Scaglietti's passing saying: "Today is a sad day for Ferrari. We lost a friend, a travel companion, a man who had his name forever connected to the Prancing Horse. Sergio Scaglietti leaves behind the legacy of an artist who, with his talent, created some of the most beautiful cars of our history."
